Is there a cuter capital city in the world than Reykjavík? In this post, we’ll be putting this debate to bed with conclusive proof that there definitely isn’t. In fact, let me be very clear: Reykjavík is without any doubt the world’s cutest capital city.

Of course, I acknowledge there are close contenders. The centre of Ljubljana is pretty cute, but the suburbs and the urban sprawl does let it down somewhat. Tallinn is also certainly in the top five, but the area around the port doesn’t match the city centre’s Gothic charm.

For a capital city to be the world’s cutest, we have to consider all of it, from the central square all the way to the outskirts (or the lava fields in Reykjavík's case). Once we’ve done that, there can only be one conclusion - Reykjavík is the world’s cutest capital city.

While compact, Reykjavík is still a vibrant centre filled with things to see and do and a great place to start an itinerary-filled exploration of all that Iceland has to offer. From its picturesque streets, fantastic restaurants and lively night-life to its full catalogue of daily activities and excursions, no one leaves Reykjavík having had a dull time.

Getting to Hallgrímskirkja is easy. Just look for the clock tower to the south-east of the city centre and walk towards it. Entry to the church is free, while entry to the tower and its wonderful views is 900 ISK (approx. £6.60 / €7.50 / US$6.00). Well worth it!
